Contents Summary
NATO troops have evacuated but the war in Afghanistan continues. Over the course of a year, the filmmakers Saeed Taji Farouky and Michael McEvoy accompany an Afghan National Army battalion of hardened veterans and new recruits desperate for a steady income. The soldiers battle insurgents in the province of Helmand, venturing from their base to track down suspected Taliban and stake out opium crops. This is one of Afghanistan's most dangerous regions, nicknamed “bomb alley” by NATO troops. In this remote outpost we find the experienced Captain Jalaluddin and the new recruit, Private Sunnatullah. At one point the battalion scavenges an abandoned NATO base for supplies but even the wiring has been stripped away, while another routine operation suddenly erupts into a deadly firefight sending soldiers and cameraman scurrying for their lives.
