Contents Summary
Rica Venturiano, a young lawyer with political ambitions, falls in love with Zita, the sister of Veta, wife of Juapan Dumitrache, who believes that Venturiano is actually courting Veta. Meanwhile Veta engages in an affair with Chiriac, an employee of Dumitrache, who despite desperately trying to avoid being cuckolded, turns a blind eye to the affair his wife has with his most trusted employee. Movie made after a play by I. L. Caragiale, one of the most well-known Romanian playwrights of 19th century. It is a comedy of situations (mainly by means of mistaken identities and of dialogue full of double-entendres) that parodies the cliches of a Romanian society attempting to look "European."
