Contents Summary
“My Room Is My Best Friend” is a documentary about underage asylum seekers in the Netherlands. Young people with a hidden past and uncertain future, who suddenly turn up in our daily lives and disappear almost unnoticed, while we hardly have any notion of their ‘state of being’. The documentary is based on a school project in the Netherlands, where youngsters write a poem about their most cherished memories, about a feeling, or an experience, or a memory. The poem has to be in Dutch. They encase this poem in a small wooden frame which they paint and decorate. The film presents these homeless and uprooted children through their Dutch poems and the concept of ‘integration’ gains a new meaning.
