Contents Summary
Oktay is an amalgamation of a beggar, a junk collector, and a rubbish collector; he has begged on the streets, and collected rubbish; he has sold paper, and cared for stray dogs. Everything that he has experienced on the streets has a special place in his life, a memory. Oktay never gave up, his life changed in Istanbul through meeting students and reading discarded books found in the bins, which he began to read and educate himself from. Now he runs a second hand book store, a place for students, journalists, academics and street kids. Oktay’s tale challenges common prejudices, opinions about street workers, and particularly street kids.
