On the border of China and North Korea, North Korean women are offered to Chinese brokers. They are sold on the human market to assure the subsistance of their remaining family. The women become part of Chinese peasant families, work in the fields, and become surrogate mothers. However, the following generation are not recognized as citizens of China, North or South Korea and are withheld from education and medical care benefits. This is the story of "phantom" children.
