The Parallel Archive is part of a larger collaborative, distributed archive project of the OSA Archivum. Copies of documents are sent/donated by researchers, who, while working in other archives, copy or digitize documents. OSA Archivum - whenever it is technically feasible - converts image files into searchable text files. OSA Archivum hosts and preserves the digital copies, and by the help of technical means, tries to secure both the authenticity and integrity of the document throughout the long archival process. The Parallel archive consists of primarily copies of records, which are related to the recent history of Hungary. Most of the records originate from the so called Historical Office and its successor institution, the Historical Archive of the National Security Services. Most of these records, originated by the secret police, were highly classified documents before 1990, and even today cannot be research without certain restrictions. The records document the abuse of fundamental human rights of the communist regime in Hungary. According to the principle of provenance the subfonds relate to other institutions and private persons who, while conducting their research requested copies of the records - among them daily operative reports, personal files, indictments, and court decisions, etc. Guaranteeing the authenticity of the copies deposited at the OSA Archivum rests primarily with the donor, who deposited them at the Archivum. *** A párhuzamos archívum része az OSA Archivum digitális másolat gyűjteményének. A kutatók együttműködésén alapuló archívum olyan, elsősorban a közelmúlt történetével kapcsolatos dokumentumokat gyűjt, amelyeket a kutatók, más levéltárakban folytatott munkájuk során másoltak, és közérdeklődére számottartónak ítéltek. Az OSA Archivumba eljuttatott másolatokból, ha a technikai lehetőségek ezt lehetővé teszik, kereshető, szöveges digitális másolatok készülnek. A digitalizált dokumentumok - hacsak az adományozók nem rendelkeznek másként - az OSA Archivum honlapján hozzáférhetőek más kutatók, avagy a teljes nyilvánosság számára. A Párhuzamos Archívum célja, hogy a dokumentumokban található információ folyamatosan elérhető és kereshető legyen, az egymásra vonatkozó dokumentumok keresztreferencia segítségével összekapcsolhatóak legyenek, biztosítható legyen a források hitelessége és a szövegek integritása. A Párhuzamos Archívum elsősorban a magyar közelmúlt történetére vonatkozó, 199O előtt többnyire titkosan kezelt, ma is csak részben és korlátozottan hozzáférhető dokumetummásolatok digitalizált gyűjteménye. A dokumetumokat azok a személyek ajánlották föl a Párhuzamos Archívum számára, akik azokat levéltárokban, elsősorban az egykori Történeti Hivatalban, illetve utódszervezetében, az Állambiztonsági Szolgálatok Történeti Levéltárában, kutatás során, jogszerűen másolták. A Párhuzamos Archívum sorozatai a provenancia elve alapján más intézményeket, illetve magánszemélyeket jelölnek. A Párhuzamos Archívumban elhelyezettt dokumentumok másolatok. Forrásuk hitelességének biztosítása az adományozó személyes felelősége.
