Scope and content (abstract)
Appeals Court documents relating the the case of Imre Finta, a Canadian citizen of Ontario and a former commander of an investigative unit of the Gendarmerie in Szeged, who was accused of committing manslaughter, kidnapping and unlawful confinement during the deportation of over 8,000 Jews in Szeged. Finta, who was the first person to be prosecuted under Canada's war crimes legislation, was charged in 1987 and acquitted in 1990. The Ontario Court of Appeal (1992) and the Supreme Court of Canada (1994) upheld the acquittal.
