Scope and content (abstract)
The liberal political party Alliance of Free Democrats (SZDSZ) was in the parliament between 1990 and 2010 and a government coalition partner from 1994 to 1998 and from 2002 to 2008 to the ruling Hungarian Socialist Party (MSZP). The historical roots of the party lay in the Hungarian democratic opposition of the 1970s and 1980s. It formally ceased to exist in 2013. Gábor Demszky was Mayor of Budapest for twenty years as SZDSZ candidate. In addition he was president of the party between December 2000 and June 2001.
The subfonds consists of two series. The first includes documents on Gábor Demszky’s activities related to SZDSZ as well as on his membership of the European Commission, on cases of SZDSZ Ethical Committee and local branches, and a collection of press clippings on SZDSZ.
The second series includes SZDSZ documents from the period when Demszky was president.
