Contents Summary
On 22nd November 2012, at least 79 women and children were raped in Minova, a small town in Eastern DR Congo. Unlike similar rampages, the perpetrators were not from the M23 rebel movement but from the Congolese National Army, the very men in place to protect those most vulnerable. Fiona Lloyd-Davies has gained unprecendented access to the rapists involved and talked to the Military Prosecutor of North Kivu, Mokuta Amdondo, who is currently conducting the investigation into the recent atrocities. Why did the national army rape? Will the Military Prosecutor successfully convict the men involved or will the endemic corruption continue?
