The first day of September is a milestone for every first grade student. There is a school in the Swiss Yverdon however, where students face very different challenges from the ones we would assume: they have important and challenging tasks of learning to go down the stairs, eat on their own or play with others. Director Fernand Melgar leads us to the largely unknown and powerfully complex world of disabled children. We follow the first schoolyear of five children to see them making their first steps towards independence guided by the loving care of their parents and special needs teachers.
