Bill Newton-Smith was involved in the establishment of the Central European University (CEU) from the very beginning. The materials in this series cover the intellectual and administrative groundwork that lead to the foundation of the university. Documents include those dealing with the legal procedures and organizational work of the early years, the founding documents and by-laws of the CEU and its various programs and departments, the first Senate and Research Board meeting minutes, issues of the CEU Gazette, and extensive press coverage, as well as administrative files related to the CEU buildings on both the Budapest and Prague campus. Of special interest are the files containing correspondence between the key persons who were behind the idea of establishing such a unique university in the region, as well as the US accreditation package and the first ever academic program of CEU.
