Scope and content (abstract)
500 hours of off-air recordings of broadcasts of the Iraqi State Television (IST) March 17 - April 7, 2003. Programs on the IST ran 24 hours/day, but since the war on Iraq started, several intermissions have occurred due to attacks. Broadcasting broke down on early April 7, 2003. The recorded IST programs show a great variety: from hourly news blocks through political commentaries and roundtable discussions on the ongoing war to musical-patriotic propaganda clips. On Fridays lengthy religious programs were broadcast. The leader of the country, Saddam Hussein was also shown on various occasions. Of special interest are the English language press conferences held by the Iraqi Information Minister.
