Summary

A once-sovereign nation for thousands of years, Tibet remains under harsh Chinese rule and a patriotic re-education. The surviving Tibetan folk music shapes an endangered people as identity. Ngawang Choephel, a Tibetan who fled for India at the age of two, returned home to capture the music of his people. He was arrested and sentenced to 18 years in prison, serving nearly 7 years before a highly publicized release. A heartbreaking tale of cultural exploitation and resistance, "Tibet in Song" is a raw and uncensored look at Tibet today and its fight for cultural heritage.
