Content and Structure
- Scope and Content (Abstract)
- The Art of the Unofficial exhibit was a parallel show with the exhibition titled A Celebration of the Forbidden: Rebel Artists and Their Work from the Soviet Union, displayed in Műcsarnok (Kunsthalle) Budapest. The Open Society Archives has opened its show on October 11, 1997. This exhibit examined the political and historical background of the artists and their artwork. Through contemporary photos, documents, and Radio Free Europe / Radio Liberty transcripts, this exhibit illustrated the troublesome lives of the artists, their unofficial exhibits that were labelled by the authorities as illegal, and the sometimes tragic, sometimes amusing episodes of their continuous battle with those in power.
