Scope and content (abstract)
This series contains transcripts of broadcasts of the main Hungarian radio stations monitored by Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty on a daily basis. The most interesting part of these materials are the transcripts of broadcasts covering the 1956 Revolution, when RFE/RL also monitored - when jamming allowed - broadcasts of independent, local radio stations. During those weeks a good number of so called free, but ephemeral radios began operating in Budapest and almost all major towns (Miskolc, Győr, Debrecen, Szolnok, Kaposvár). Beginning with January 1993, news programs of the Hungarian TV have been also monitored.
