Scope and content (abstract)
The materials in this series are newspaper clippings, press summaries and transcripts of articles selected from both the central (Bucharest) and regional press. The Romanian press had long been considered the main source of information for the Research Unit. Accordingly, the Romanian Press Survey, averaging fifteen pages each, was usually prepared two to five times a week. (For example, in 1966, the Research Analysts monitored approximately 50 Romanian periodicals on a regular basis.) The Press Surveys became especially interesting when the fall of the communist regime allowed new publications to mushroom on the media market: beginning with 1990, dailies and weeklies of all kinds of political affiliations, economic magazines, historical reviews, and tabloids have also been monitored.
