Their anti-communism brought together several Eastern European oppositionary figures in the decades of the one party dictatorship. The friends organized a conference in Budapest in 1991 to issue a charter and monitor and voice the violation of rights in Eastern Europe. Participants were Sonja Licht (Yugoslavia), Adam Michnik (Poland), Oleg Rumiantsev (Soviet Union), János Kis (Hungary), Peter Huncik (Czechoslovakia), György Konrád (Hungary), György Soros (US) and many more.
